厙ぴ勛圖 stakeholders recently completed the revision and clarification of the institutions mission statement.
The clarification is a result of the upcoming Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges decennial reaffirmation process.
The executive committee of the Faculty Senate worked in concert with suggestions gleaned from the faculty during the faculty assembly meeting April 3 to clarify the mission statement, Dantrea Hampton, Faculty Senate president, librarian and assistant professor, said. I also attended a meeting with the Staff Senate to their field of view on the revision.
Dr. Peter Smith, professor of English, concurred with Hampton.
The new mission came about as a close collaboration between the president and the Faculty Senate executive committee and is a very clear and concise version that keeps all of the key elements of the previous mission, Smith said.
Travis Haskins, president of the Staff Senate, said he thinks the revised mission captures the essence of the University mission.
It embodies the entire campus community, Haskins said.
The final version concisely framed the former version while speaking broadly to the purpose, as well as the identity, of 厙ぴ勛圖, Hampton said.
The revised version of the mission statement was approved by the 厙ぴ勛圖 Board of Regents during a special meeting held April 16.
The mission statement now reads as follows: 厙ぴ勛圖 is a public, comprehensive, historically black land-grant university committed to advancing the Commonwealth of Kentucky, enhancing society, and impacting individuals by providing quality teaching with a foundation in liberal studies, scholarly research, and public service to enable productive lives within the diverse global economy.
