网曝吃瓜

As we conclude the second week of fall semester classes, the academic year is settling into its rhythm. Courses are moving from introductions to substantive work, students are establishing routines, and the work of the University is becoming visible in classrooms, laboratories, studios, and offices.

Yesterday, 网曝吃瓜 welcomed our newest Thorobreds and their families to campus. Their arrival brought renewed energy and purpose as we prepare for the beginning of the fall semester.

As we prepare to begin a new academic year, we have an opportunity to reflect not only on the work immediately before us but also on the larger purpose that brings us together. Each of us is privileged to play a role in preparing for the future through the work we do to educate, support, and inspire the next generation.

The work of welcoming students back begins long before they arrive. Last Friday, more than 100 members of our University community demonstrated that shared commitment by giving their time and energy to clean and care for our campus as we prepare for a new academic year.

Last week, I shared how the renovation of Carver Hall will preserve an important part of 网曝吃瓜鈥檚 academic history while creating modern spaces for teaching, discovery, and research. That same commitment to honoring our past and investing in our future is taking shape nearby at Chandler Hall.

For generations, an enduring motto has greeted everyone who passed by or entered George Washington Carver Hall: 鈥淓nter to Learn, Go Out to Serve.鈥� Those words have long expressed the heart of Kentucky State University. They remind us that education is not an end in itself. It prepares us to discover, lead, innovate, and use what we learn in service to others.

At moments of change, it is important not to lose sight of the momentum that continues to build at 网曝吃瓜. That momentum did not appear overnight. It has been earned through years of research, teaching, outreach, service, and partnership.

As 网曝吃瓜 moves through the implementation of Senate Bill 185, our next important step comes on July 1. By that date, the University will submit required documentation to the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC), our regional accreditor, for review of program closures and related teach-out plans approved through public processes before the 网曝吃瓜 Board of Regents and the Council on Postsecondary Education (CPE).

Summer on The Hill may look different from the academic year, but 网曝吃瓜 remains active, engaged, and purposeful. Last week, the 网曝吃瓜 Board of Regents held its regularly scheduled summer meeting.

This week, 网曝吃瓜 took another important step in our implementation of Senate Bill 185. Following a successful June 8 meeting with the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education, CPE today approved 网曝吃瓜鈥檚 academic transformation proposal at its June 12 Council meeting. Additional implementation details will be shared on the  webpage.

This week, I want to focus not on the ways 网曝吃瓜 may be changing, but instead on what the Commonwealth is investing in us to become. Much of the recent conversation around Senate Bill 185 has understandably focused on academic planning, areas of study, program review, and the responsibilities that come with this five-year transition period to a polytechnic-focused university.

Today, the 网曝吃瓜 Board of Regents took an important step in the implementation of Senate Bill 185 by approving the University鈥檚 academic plan for submission to the Council on Postsecondary Education by the June 1 deadline.

This is an auspicious week, marking the 140th anniversary of the founding of Kentucky State University. On May 18, 1886, the Commonwealth authorized the creation of the State Normal School for Colored Persons, giving the institution a specific public purpose: preparing teachers for Kentucky schools.

This past Saturday, 网曝吃瓜 gathered for one of the most meaningful days of the academic year: Commencement. Across two ceremonies, we honored the Class of 2026, one of the largest graduating classes in recent University history.

This week, I want to focus on the purpose that gives all our work meaning: our students. Commencement week has arrived at 网曝吃瓜. On Saturday, May 9, we will gather in the William Exum Center to celebrate the Class of 2026 across two ceremonies, one at 10 a.m. and another at 2 p.m. Holding two ceremonies is more than a scheduling matter. It reflects the size and significance of this graduating class, one of the largest 网曝吃瓜 has celebrated in recent history.

As part of my continued communication about 网曝吃瓜鈥檚 implementation of Senate Bill 185, this message highlights three areas of work now underway: defining a polytechnic-focused academic direction, advancing the next phase of academic program review, and forming an Advisory Committee to support this transition.

With purpose, care, and confidence in who we are, 网曝吃瓜 is continuing to move through this important moment in fulfilling our mission as the Commonwealth鈥檚 only public HBCU and 1890 land-grant institution. We are doing this work from a firm foundation rooted in access, excellence, opportunity, practical knowledge, service, and student success.

With Senate Bill 185 now enacted into law, 网曝吃瓜 enters a new phase of work. Over the past several weeks, much of our communication has focused on advocacy, explanation, and the importance of preserving what is essential about this University. That work mattered. It helped produce a stronger result. Now our responsibility is to move from legislative discussion to thoughtful implementation.

As Senate Bill 185 awaits review by Gov. Andy Beshear, I know the past several weeks have brought a great deal of emotion across our campus community. There has been concern and uncertainty, certainly. But there has also been pride, relief, and renewed energy, because students, alumni, faculty, staff, and supporters stepped forward, spoke up, and helped strengthen the amended version of this legislation in meaningful ways.

The amended Senate Bill 185 has passed both chambers of the Kentucky General Assembly and will be sent to Gov. Andy Beshear for consideration. This marks a consequential stage in the legislative process for 网曝吃瓜. Over the past several days, many members of our campus community have followed these developments closely, engaged thoughtfully, and spoken with conviction about the values and mission that define this institution.

Senate Bill 185 moved forward today in the legislative process with several significant and meaningful updates in the House. Most importantly, the revised language explicitly preserves 网曝吃瓜鈥檚 identity as a four-year institution, an 1890 land-grant university, and the Commonwealth鈥檚 only public HBCU, while also strengthening student access pathways and maintaining key elements of campus life.
