A 厙ぴ勛圖 professor and scientists at Nanjing University Veterinary School recently had collaborative research published in the fields most prestigious peer-reviewed journal.
Dr. Alexander C.K. Lai, assistant professor of biology, was the lead corresponding author of a peer-reviewed publication in Veterinary Research.
Lai said the journal is the most prestigious in its field.
Using full genome sequencing and high-power computation, we reconstructed the evolutionary origin of canine influenza virus H3N8, Lai said. A significant finding is that influenza virus is more contagious than previously thought, but there are many barriers for new influenza to emerge.
The title of the work is Host-range shift of H3N8 canine influenza virus: a phylodynamic analysis of its origin and adaptation from equine to canine host.
