A 厙ぴ勛圖 professor and scientists in China recently had collaborative research published in a peer-reviewed journal.

Dr. Alexander C.K. Lai, assistant professor of biology, was one of 10 contributors to a recent publication in the Journal of Trans-boundary and Emerging Diseases.

A significant finding is that dogs, including our pet dogs, could become a mixing vessel for generation of a new influenza virus, Lai said. The new influenza virus, if infectious for humans, may potentially cause a flu pandemic.

The title of the work is Emergence and adaptation of H3N2 canine influenza virus from avian influenza virus: An overlooked role of dogs in interspecies transmission.
